Message from the Executive Director

Welcome. As a self proclaimed representative of the 21 towns of the northeast corner, we hope that you will find it a useful place to visit. Our links will connect you with financial institutions, towns, economic groups, and various state agencies, all dedicated to this area of the state and its future economic growth.

Incorporated in 1990 as a 501c(3) private, non-profit economic development corporation, the Northeast Alliance has seen substantial growth during the last decade. The original vision of the Alliance was focused in two areas. One involved a commitment to working directly with small local business owners in northeastern Connecticut. The second was a desire to work on larger scale regional activities with the hope of creating a more cohesive region—one with a voice large enough to be heard outside the region.

Both of these visions are being accomplished with the assistance of a small, dedicated staff, a visionary Board of Directors who believe in this corner of the state, and the guidance and support of countless local economic development partners in the Northeast corner.

The Northeast Alliance has assisted more than 40 businesses over the past 15 years with direct loans and/or loan guarantees and helped businesses in our region to create and/or retain over 500 jobs. In addition, our agency has been dedicated to working with a variety of organizations in the region to help create bridges between themselves and economic development opportunities. In the past, we have acted as the applicant and fiduciary for public economic development resources and have been instrumental in linking government and municipal agencies with economic development resources in the region.

Our goal today “is to promote a variety of economic development activities within the 21 town Northeastern Connecticut region.” Although our vision has been restated, we remain strong in our commitment to assisting small businesses in the region with such activities as financial and business development advice, technical assistance, loan provision and/or support and grant application support.

We are presently working with a new manufacturing concern that will locate in Sterling, a small business already located in Mansfield, a medium sized business looking to grow in the Killingly area, and several micro and small businesses in the greater Windham area.

I look forward to hearing from YOU, the small business owner in Northeastern Connecticut. Let us assist you in growing your business.
